Miami 21 Zoning Code Influences
New Urbanism
New Urbanism is a planning movement that started in America in the 1980s that heavily values walkable, neighborhood-based growth as opposed to rapid expansion. This movement promotes mixed-use urban neighborhoods and making use of existing infrastructure while preserving nature. There are ten main aspects of New Urbanism that influence growth:

Smart Growth
Smart Growth is also a planning movement that started in America in the 1970s that valued environmental awareness, sustainability, economic feasibility, and community. Through development under smart growth, communities and promote social and physical activity in new and existing neighborhoods. The idea is to maintain the best of the past while developing for a better and brighter future. There are also ten key aspects that define Smart Growth, very similar to the principles of New Urbanism:
